CANADIAN CURRENCY
Canada’s
currency is the Canadian Dollar, and the Canadian Dollar’s international symbol
is the usual dollar sign ‘$’. In Canadian English, you say ‘Canadian dollar’ or
‘dollar/dollars’ but in Canadian French you say ‘dollar canadien’ and also
simply ‘dollar/dollars’. In the Canadian dollar, there are 5 notes - $5, $10,
$20, $50 and a $100 note. There are six different types of coins in the
Canadian Dollar: 5¢, 10¢, 25¢, 50¢, $1, and $2 coins.
CANADIAN NOTES AND COINS
CANADIAN NOTES AND COINS
I used the
website below to find out the exchange rates between Canadian and Australian
Dollars:
http://www.xe.com/currencyconverter/
As of November 5, 2014, the current exchange rates between Canadian and Australian dollars are as follows:
1.00 CAD (Canadian Dollars) = 1.00272 AUD (Australian Dollars)
1.00 AUD (Australian Dollars) = 0.997479 CAD (Canadian Dollars)
Problem Solving Scenario
In the following scenario, I will be calculating the cost of a particular item in Canada using Australian Dollars.
An Australian tourist wants to return home from Canada to Australia. The cost of the return trip in Canadian Dollars is $2750. The tourist only has access to Australian Dollars, and this means that they must convert the cash to Canadian Dollars. Using the exchange rate above, calculate how many Australian dollars must the tourist use to convert to the Canadian currency?
AUD $2,750 ÷ CAD $0.997479 = 2756.950271634791
Therefore, approximately $2,756.95 Australian Dollars are needed to convert to exactly $2,750 in Canadian Dollars.
